Next Meeting. Our next meeting will be a meet-and-greet event with City Council and Mayoral candidates, on Thursday, September 20 at the Commonwealth Baptist Church, starting at 7:30pm. We also intend to schedule a forum for School Board candidates; again, details to follow.
Russell-King-Callahan Intersection. Thanks to all who joined us for our “field trip” on August 20 with Darren Buck of the City for an on-site discussion of planned changes to the Russell-King-Callahan intersection. These improvements – to be primarily funded with federal money – are designed to emphasize pedestrian and bike safety/access, but also are incidentally expected to reduce rush-hour backups. Preliminary work on traffic signals is expected to begin soon; the timetable for the full project may depend on the impact of the work at the King Street Metro station (see below). Metro Disruptions. The long-planned construction at the King Street Metro to rebuild and redesign the parking lot begins in September. Additionally, there will be no service between Braddock Road and Pentagon City between Friday, November 2 and Monday November 5, and there will be no Yellow Line service across the Potomac between Monday, November 26 and Sunday, December 9.
